In the recent provincial election in Prince Edward Island voter
turn out was 83% - higher than any other province usually attains.
This figure is even more amazing when you consider the fact that
Hurricane Juan struck the island just before daybreak and caused
power outages along with downed tree limbs.
Traditionally P.E.I. has a high turn out. WHY? Probably because
of the small population everyone is very attuned to what is happening
politically since the “arena” is not large. In more
urban areas the focus suffers somewhat.
Next month municipal elections will take place throughout Ontario.
What issues in your area affect the “advancement of the
status of women”?
